A Big Memorial Day Salute To The Men And Women That Gave Their Lives For Us

I could post a sad video about the men and women of the armed forces we’ve lost of the past year. Write something dramatic here about how Memorial Day has become a 3 day weekend of barbecues and boozing and how not enough people remember the true meaning behind the holiday. But fuck that. The men and women who unfortunately lost their lives wouldn’t want it that way. They didn’t go off to fight for this country to get credit for doing so. They don’t care what people say on their facebook statuses or what bloggers write about them on their website. They go off to fight for us to make sure America is the best goddam country in the world. They give their lives so that we can live such privileged lives where we’re able to spend a long weekend in the sun having fun with friends and family kicking off summer.

So enjoy your day off today. Enjoy the hot dogs and hamburgers and baseball. Enjoy the bikinis and sunburns and Budweisers. Because the men and women that gave their lives over this past year did so to make sure you’d still be able to do just that. Just don’t take it for granted because its what separates us from them.

Thank god for the military, without them Afghanistan may have invaded the United States along with the Iraqi navy...It just warms my heart when I think of the 100,000 dead civilians in Iraq killed by our forces...GOD BLESS THE USA.

I am not crazy about where we are in Iraq or Afghanistan, but that doesn't diminish my admiration or gratitude for the troops (past and present) one bit. These guys don't make policy, they just put their lives on the line (and some of them pay the ultimate price). Not to mention this is a day to celebrate and remember all veterans. Nice to see one blogger at BSS understands this.

I don't necessarily agree with the decision to invade both Afghanistan and Iraq, and no one is praising the death of civilians, but these guys don't choose the wars they just fight them. And if you think this whole operation hasn't turned Al Qaeda on its fucking ass and prevented another 9/11 then fuck you. There are plenty other countries you can go live in that will stand by as you watch your family die, or maybe even help kill them. And even if you're totally right about this war, you're a fucking idiot for forgetting that Memorial Day is about more than today, and that these guys, PAST and present, are the very reason you can hop on your private computer with its private Internet connection, and trash them anonymously without some government entity getting in your way. You might correctly criticize what they're doing today, but you'd be crazy to think you'd still be free and speaking English if we never had a military. So I guess you are enjoying your freedoms. Maybe you just don't deserve them.

As others have said, our soldiers don't choose the fights, they just show up and give it all. Thank you to all of them. We all live pretty simple lives thanks to the men and women out there paying the ultimate price for our freedom.
