Today In Mets Injury News: Matt Harvey And Neil Walker Both Placed On The DL, Expected To Miss Multiple Weeks
MLB.com- Mets right-hander Matt Harvey was diagnosed on Thursday with a stress injury to the scapula bone in his right shoulder. He received a PRP injection and will rehab until he is pain free, at which time he will begin a throwing program to return to pitch. He is expected to miss several weeks.
The Mets also announced that second baseman Neil Walker was also examined at the Hospital for Special Surgery in New York, where he also underwent an MRI and was diagnosed with a partial tear of his left hamstring. He received a PRP injection and will begin rehab immediately. He has been placed on the 10-day disabled list and will be replaced on the 25-man roster by Gavin Cecchini, who has been recalled from Triple-A Las Vegas. Walker is expected to miss several weeks.
Not an easy day for those of us that haven’t said that evil, rotten c-word (no the other one) for da Mets saeson. But if you want to try to spinzone it, just think of these injuries as being a way to keep the Mets fresh for the September Wild Card push. Just gotta tread water and avoid another team’s 2nd Wild Card Magic Number to get to 0. You know Ray Ramirez is in midseason form when I can write about two Mets getting hurt in the same blog. Getting Yo, Matz, and Lugo all back was too good to be true. You just knew the pendulum would swing the other way sooner or later. I was just hoping it would be later.
Obviously losing Harvey doesn’t hurt as much as it did all the other seasons he went down. He has been as steady as a schizophreniac from start to start and was starting to weigh on my personal mental health. Some bloggers would trash Harvey for the way he has gone downhill recently. He’s shot, toast, finito until his inevitable renaissance with the Yankees in a few years. But not me. Any friend or customer of Barstool is a friend of mine. If he’s buying shirts, he is putting food on Siena Clem’s table. If you give loyalty you get loyalty. Which is why I am here to say get better Matt.
As for Neil Walker, this one hurts because hamstrings are so fucking tricky and he was giving us a solid bat in the middle of the infield. As much as I would love to blame Ray Ramirez, I will put this one on Sandy Alderson’s head. I’m pretty sure the baseball gods are picking off our middle infielders one by one Final Destination style until the only healthy middle infielder left in the Mets minors is Amed Rosario. Remember, this is the team that didn’t want to give Michael Conforto a chance to start the season until injuries forced them to. Rosario apparently won’t be in Queens unless the Mets are absolutely FORCED to bring him up. We should just wrap the 25 man roster in this netting and shoot Ray Ramirez into the sun.
This isn’t the most ideal way to enter a series against the first place Nats. But as a member of the unsullied Mets fan that refused to say you-know-what da saeson, I must keep a brave face and endure whatever hurricane of shit the baseball gods throw at us.
