Happy learned how to putt! All Lucas Duda does is hit bombs. Mark McGwire type shit. Had 8 straight hits, 8 home runs. Cespedes has arrived and is already getting respect like he’s Babe Ruth – getting intentional walks to reach a guy who already had 2 home runs that night. Seriously, that had to be the worst intentional walk I’ve ever seen in my years as a baseball fan. Cespedes is batting like .150 vs lefties this year, and he walks him to get to The Dude who’s already had 2 dingers. Drives in a winning running to the left field wall. Matt Williams is the only manager worse than Terry Collins.

Jacob deGrom had probably his worst stuff since the game he got shelled in the Bronx and somehow ends up throwing 5 zeroes after a shaky first. Bullpen locked down once again after the San Diego debacle and the new offense comes through in the clutch late in the game. With Dude hitting, the arrival of Yoenis, the return of d’Arnaud, the resurgence of crybaby Flores, Granderson playing like the veteran bat they always expected, and guys like Coke Can and Kelly Johnson to plug holes, its like this team is entirely different. It wasnt just like one acquisition at the Deadline. They acquired a whole new team.

So now its Thor to close the door. This rotation is just HELLISH. You get ripped to shreds by Harvey and deGrom and you expect things to calm down as you reach the middle of the rotation, and NOPE. In comes the 22 year old who throws harder than anyone in baseball. It never ends. The rotation never quits.

Speaking of the rotation never quitting – Zack Wheeler apparently called Sandy Alderson and asked not to be traded at the deadline.

SI Now Injured New York Mets righthander Zack Wheeler personally called general manager Sandy Alderson on Friday asking to stay with the team while his name circulated in multiple trade rumors, reports NJ Advance Media’s Mike Vorkunov. “Feels good to be a part of the Mets still,” Wheeler told reporters on Thursday. “I want to be a part of what’s going on here with the Mets. I know I won’t be back till next year but I guarantee you I’ll be back a better pitcher and healthy.” Mets general manager Sandy Alderson said that while it was still a business—particularly around the trade deadline—he was struck by Wheeler’s sincerity. “[It] actually had quite an impact,” Alderson said. “Really expressed his desire to remain a Mets, his excitement for being part of the organization and being part of what is happening here. Acknowledged it was a business but at the same time wanted to express his feelings to me. I can’t say it was dispositive of what took place because I acknowledged back to him yes it’s a business.

Like Sandy says I dont think it would have changed anything if they could have sealed the deal with Gomez, but its a cool move from this kid to personally appeal to the GM and ask to stay. Between Wilmer crying and this phone call it seems all the smart young talent knows the future is bright. Any team with this rotation is where you should want to play. Wilpon bullshit aside, the next couple years are the one time you want to be in Flushing.

The whole team has confidence. The whole team walking with a little swagger. You got d’Arnaud with his eyes set on playing in November:

One step at a time, brotha. Start with sweeping the Nats tonight.
