Jets Sign Matt Forte
More Breaking News: Can confirm Mike Ditka has signed with the New York Jets, as first reported by whoever beat Adam Schefter by 3 minutes. Seriously is there any other franchise legends the Bears wanna give us? We already took B Marsh for nothing and watched him put up 1500 yards and 14 TDs. Now we’re adding Matt Forte to the mix. A legit weapon and receiver option that can impact a game on the ground and through the air. Drop him into Chan Gailey’s offense and you can forget about it. You know how potent this offense is gonna be? Once Fitz realizes this is the best spot for him with Gailey at the helm and some of the best offensive weapons in the game, he’ll reach some sort of deal with the Jets. It might end up being more than the Jets ever imagined but at this point it will be necessary. Obviously Denver is an appealing option with Osweiler gone, but the only time the dude has been Fitzmagic its been when he’s working side by side with Chan Gailey. Fitzy is too smart to ignore that. You know, he did go to Harvard. Bring Fitz back and thats all the makings of a very formidable offense.
Forte is a major upgrade in skills and durability in comparison to Ivory. Only key now is to make sure you dont run him into the ground. Hes a 30 year old RB with a lot of miles on him. He needs to be handled properly to maximize his value and thats something that I think Chan Gailey knows exactly how to do. Its a great move and only entices Fitz further to realize leaving this team would just be stupid.
As far as the rest of the Jets activity – nothing really unexpected. Snacks was a solid player and a fan favorite but paying him 9 million bucks a year is insanity. Good luck switching uniforms dude. Wish you the best. But that $46 million price tag is a little nutty. We’re already kinda fucked with the amount of cash we’ve got sunken into the D Line. Snacks for that dough would not be wise. Cutting Cumberland just made sense. Guy is just not a good football player. I mean he was willing to show up to Francesacon 1. Thats all you need to know about him. And Ivory had his flashes but never stayed healthy and I dont think his style of play doesnt really leave him with many more effective snaps in his future.
Jets shed a couple overpriced, albeit effective players and upgraded over one of those guys in a major way. Obviously its all contingent upon Fitz coming back but I think Forte went a long way towards turning this offseason around from disaster to a potential positive.
