dailybeast – Call it a serious case of Disturbia: A New York City waitress has filed a lawsuit against MAC Cosmetics after alledgedly contracting an STD while visiting the brand’s Rihanna capsule collection pop-up shop at the Barclay’s Center on May 7. Starkeema Greenidge, 28, is claims that a brand representative applied an unsanitized, herpes-infected tube of ‘Riri Woo’ lipstick to her mouth. She says that two days after her visit to the pop-up, she developed a cold sore on her lip which a doctor diagnosed as herpes. She is suing MAC for an undisclosed amount of money, seeking reparation for emotional distress and lost earnings after missing two weeks of work.
I know I’ve said that it’s time for Americans to look beyond hood names and give every person a fair shot based on their character, but it’s hard believing anything a woman named Starkeema alleges in a lawsuit. When I hear “Starkeema” I think “she’s lying”. It’s immediate.
In this case though Starkeema is wrong based on being wrong and not because she has an unemployable name. Once you decide to use a public lipstick at a Brooklyn Rihanna concert you’re pretty much accepting responsibility for the consequences at that point. It’s the risk you take when rubbing an infinite number of strangers’ lip remainders in and around your mouth. Starkeema can throw a pity party for herself all she wants, but nobody FORCED her to rub a gross Rihanna-brand public germ stick on her face. That one’s on Starkeema.
Buy some Herpicil and suck it up.
