Norm Macdonald Throws His Hat In The Ring For The Late Late Show Opening

There isn’t a news story attached to this because it’s not a story.  At least not yet anyway.  But if you go to Norm Macdonald’s Twitter account he’s spent the last 10 hours or so retweeting pretty much every single person who says he should take over the Late Late Show.  It’s safe to say he wants the job.  A quick back story of the situation: David Letterman announces he’s going to retire in 2015 and starts a domino effect.  CBS begins to look for Dave’s replacement and quickly settles on Comedy Central’s Stephen Colbert.  Current Late Late Show Craig Ferguson has a clause in his contract that says if he’s passed over for the Letterman job he gets a boat load of money.  CBS bites that bullet and picks Colbert anyway.  And now Ferguson, whose contract is up at the end of this year, has said he won’t re-up.  So we’re left with Colbert taking over the Late Show and an opening for the Late Late Show.

Enter Norm Macdonald.  Tell me Norm wouldn’t be the perfect fit for the gig.  You can’t.  The guy is hilarious dating all the way back to his days as the host of Weekend Update on SNL (ya know, before he got fired).  Since then he’s had a slew of gigs that didn’t work out.  Most recently was the disastrous sports show he did for Comedy Central that was supposed to be a sports version of the Daily Show.  It wasn’t.  He still does stand up around the country and steals the show in any interview he does.  The guy has more talent than most.  He just needs to use it.  And it sounds like Norm actually wants this Late Late Show gig and if you can get a motivated Norm Macdonald then you’ll get an awesome show.  This needs to happens.  Do it, CBS.  Just do it.

PS- More speculation from me: Artie Lange’s DirecTV radio show “The Artie Lange Show” just got cancelled.  He’s not doing anything right now. And I’m not saying having Artie Lange be Norm’s sidekick on the Late Late Show would be one the coolest things to ever happen, but having Artie Lange be Norm’s sidekick on the Late Late Show would be on of the coolest things to ever happen.  A Dirty Work reunion 4 nights a week would be spectacular.

People are already changing the Late Late Show’s Wikipedia page to include Norm.  Don’t be stupid, CBS.  Give the people what they want.

And I’d be absolutely remiss if I didn’t include a Farley scene from Dirty Work.  He steals every single scene in that movie.
