Independent- A man imprisoned for four months for possession of methylamphetamine has been released after it was determined that the suspected ‘crystal meth’ was actually salt. The man from Maryborough, Queensland in Australia was arrested after the substance was found in his car. He was then detained for four months while police carried out forensic tests. The man’s lawyer, Travis George said the length of time was likely due his client’s previous criminal convictions. Charges were dropped against the man after the returned test results confirmed that the substance was indeed Epsom salt (magnesium sulphate). The blunder has prompted further criticism of Queensland’s Health’s Forensic and Scientific Services who previously faced condemnation after alleged delays in returning forensic tests. A Maryborough magistrate, John Smith said: “For the last 14 years nothing has been done (about the delays)… once again the government needs to have a look at what they are doing in relation to this”.

Listen, take it from a guy who was recently on the inside.  You don’t wanna be in there a second longer than you have to be.  That sounds obvious but I was there for 16 hours and I was climbing the walls I wanted to get out so bad.  Fresh had air never tasted so sweet when those doors finally opened. Now think about this innocent guy in there for 4 MONTHS for no reason. He obviously knew that it wasn’t meth they had picked up in his house.  So while the forensics lab is taking it’s sweet time he’s just sitting in jail wondering why the hell he’s there. Twiddling his thumbs and getting jacked.  That sounds like the worst possible thing that could happen.  Because you know what they give you in jail to pass the time?  If it’s anything like where I was, nothing. You just stare at the wall and hope you don’t go insane.  Or maybe you wanna go insane. That would pass the time quicker.  Also, I’m no expert on meth, but couldn’t one person had dipped their finger in the “meth” given it a little taste and been like, “Okay yeah, that’s salt”?  Seems simple enough. 4 months is a little long to realize what you thought was crystal meth was actually what people put on their popcorn.
