Trump Ran For President Because He Figured It Would Be Much More Fun Than Buying A New Yacht (He Wasn’t Wrong)
NYP - Former House Speaker Newt Gingrich reveals in a new book that Donald Trump thought running for president would cost about as much as a yacht and be “a lot more fun.”
Gingrich, a Trump ally and confidant, said he met with Trump in January 2015 and they talked about how much a presidential race would cost – with competitive estimates running to as much as $80 million.
“His response was priceless,” Gingrich writes in “Understanding Trump, ” in an excerpt published by ABC News on Sunday. “After a moment of thought, he said, ‘$70 to 80 million: that would be a yacht. This would be a lot more fun than a yacht!.’”
In an interview with Reuters in April – shortly before his first 100 days in office – Trump talked about how the rigors of the White House were affecting him.
“I loved my previous life. I had so many things going,” Trump told the news service . “This is more work than in my previous life. I thought it would be easier.”
I have to give it up for the Trumpster on this one. He was presented the numbers. He was given the facts. He took it all in. He thought about it for a minute. The hamster was spinning the wheel in his brain. And he came to the conclusion that spending 80 million dollars to run for freaking president of the United States was going to be more fun than buying a new yacht. He was 100% spot on.
Think about how much fun Trump had during the campaign. He was front and center in every debate. He got to make fun of Marco Rubio’s height, he got to call Ted Cruz’s wife ugly,
And he repeatedly stuffed Jeb Bush in a locker, over and over and over and over again, among countless others.
All the while he got to fly around the country on his donors’ dime, had crowds chant his name at every stop, and be bigger than the Beatles everywhere he went. He got to make fun of Hilary to his supporters delight, make fun of handicapped people, Mexicans, talking about grabbing chicks by their pussies- he did and said whaever he wanted, and he only got more and more popular. During the campaign he dominated headlines and the news channels every single day.
So yeah, I would say his plan to have more fun than buying a new yacht was exceeded times a billion. An absolute dream come true for Trump.
And thennnnnnnnn he won.
