Ovi Has So Many Multiple Goal Games In His Career It Broke My Brain

To be honest, I’m not even sure if this stat means anything, or means everything, or means something in between. He has more multi-goal games than anyone in the last 17 years, despite debuting 11 seasons ago. I think that’s pretty impressive. What it means is he is very, very good at getting the puck from his stick, to the net. And last night he lit the lamp 3 times…let’s see if they had anything in common:

Just amazing. They know it’s coming and teams still can’t stop it. The PP Ovi shot from the Ovi spot is the most effective play in all of sports. If the goalie can stop the 100 MPH one timer, good on ya, but Ovi has made a pretty nice career buzzing it by their heads.

After that slump where he went scoreless for 10 games straight, Ovi now sits at 33 goals on the year, including 6 in his last 7 games. Looks like he finally sweated out all the vodka from the bye week and is gearing up for the playoffs. Hey guys, what could possibly go wrong?

It’s kind of wild to think about. He’s in his 12th year, and needs to average about 34 more goals, while staying healthy, for 10 more seasons. Sprinkle in a couple more 40+ goal seasons to make it easier in those later years, and you know, why not? I doubt Ovi stays in America long enough to do it, but it’s fun to at least think about it. And insane to think how Gretzky was scoring all those goals while racking up 10 trillion assists at the same time. Sure it must have been nice to play in an era when goalies looked like twigs out there, which makes what Ovi is doing even more impressive.
