This Stat From Chapman's Debut Last Night Blows My Mind

12 pitches in 8 years, TWELVE  and Chapman came on and threw thirteen in one inning last night. And what’s worse is the throwers of the previous 12? Henry Rodriguez from the dismal 2013 year where the goal was to lose as many games as possible (Outfield of Schierholz, David DeJesus and an old Alfonso Soriano, what’s up!). The “other” Chris Carpenter aka the really bad Chris Carpenter. And Andrew Cashner (thanks for Rizzo). I could have sworn Randy Wells put flames on the gun at some point but I was drunk for a lot of those years (probably not as drunk as Randy).

And now we have Chapman. Last night obviously wasn’t a close situation after the Baez/Addy break out but it was a good spot to get him in front of the home crowd and holy fuck does he throw. A lot of people were saying, it’s not new Big Cat, he’s always been incredible. Well yeah, I get that, he shut the door on the Cubs time and time again when he was in Cincy. But it is new when he’s on your team and the 9th now feels automatic. We had 12 total pitches of over 100 and now we have a guy who throws 103 on the regular. And nothing against Rondon who has been great, but this is different and it really can’t be described. Before Rondon who was our best closer? Ryan Dempster? And that was like a quarter of what Chapman is. Crazy feeling to have that 103 on your side.
