The Kansas City Chiefs Drafted A 1st-Round Quarterback For The First Time Since 1983

920x920

The streak is over.

The Chiefs drafted Texas Tech quarterback Patrick Mahomes on Thursday night after trading up to No. 10 in the NFL Draft. It had been 34 years since the Chiefs took a quarterback in the first round: Todd Blackledge in 1983.

To get Mahomes, the Chiefs traded their first-round pick (No. 27), one of their two third-round picks this year (No. 91 overall), and their 2018 first-round pick to the Buffalo Bills.

Since the Chiefs got Alex Smith, they’ve been better. They’ve been a playoff team and nothing more. Alex Smith simply wasn’t going to bring that team to the next level and the team trading away next year’s first rounder and more shows that. Mahomes is the kinda quarterback who could do just that. Their fans seem to know that as well.

They like him because he can make throws like this:

Lots of emotions going on for Kansas City fans.

But I’d guess I’d be emotional if I thought I was getting Brett Farve II.

KC GM John Dorsey was basically the video example of “when you nut but she keep on succin.”
