(Source) This ad ran today in the Lee Enterprises-owned Wisconsin State Journal. I called Tumbledown Trails Golf Course this evening and was told to speak to the manager in the morning. The man who answered the phone mentioned that this is the third year the Verona, Wisconsin, club has offered the $9.11 special “commemorating” 9/11.
Update: Here’s what the golf club has posted on Facebook:
Oh you mean you don’t think of discounted tee times and 9 hole deals when talking about the nation’s largest tragedy in the past 50 years? Jeez, lighten up guys, just trying to commemorate death with a little pitch and putt. $9.11, 9/11, get it?? Did you even see we have a bar and grill too?
My question is how the fuck does someone not realize how dumb this is? I’m not overly offended because in the grand scheme of things it’s relatively harmless and they apologized but how fucking stupid can you be? Like it’s not that hard to figure out that this was a bad idea. Just open your little business handbook* to page 1 and read the line that says don’t mix terrorist attacks on our country with great savings. It’s really that simple. Pause for a second and think, hey 9/11 was a pretty bad day with some pretty bad memories, maybe getting people out to commemorate it with cheap golf isn’t in great taste. At least I thought it was that simple
*Handbook doesn’t actually exist, it’s just called common sense and it’s supposed to be in everyone’s brain.
