I’ll be honest. I’m no doctor. I know almost nothing about cervical fusions and vertebrates and all that shit. But what I do know is that 3 neck surgeries isn’t a good look for an NFL quarterback. And not in the metaphorical sense. I mean literally, it is not a good look to stare down Julius Peppers with scars going up and down the top part of your spine. About as big a bulls-eye as you could have. I just have no idea how you could be okay coming back out on the field after that feeling comfortable, let alone convince a front office to sign you up for $90 million. It’s lunacy. And ever since it was revealed that Manning wasn’t retiring I just figured he would get decapitated the second he stepped back out on the field. Pull off the shortest comeback in the history of sport. Well, here we are. And I still think there’s a good chance it’ll happen. Obviously with Urlacher sitting out with his bum knee and Manning only taking 10-12 snaps the odds are lowered. And you never want to see a guy get hurt or seriously injured. But if Manning’s body is being wheeled off on a gurney tonight and his head is being packed into an equipment bag close behind, you heard it here first.
