I won’t sit here and tell you that I give even the tiniest morsel sized mouse shit about women’s soccer or women’s sports. It’d be totally dishonest. Case in point yesterday I was watching the US team beat Japan and accidently tweeted Abby Wambach’s first name as “Amy” and all the Title IX loving stoolies were up in arms and livid. Just ready to go down with their girls come hell or high water. And I respect that. I won’t walk into the lion’s den that is guys liking lady sports more than regular sports. It’s not my place.
But having said that I am totally loving the rest of the world hating on Hope Solo and Team USA for wearing “Greatness has been found” t-shirts after winning gold yesterday. Just eating it up. Kinda want every American athlete to wear one after medaling in any event. Just shove it in everyone’s face how great we think we are. Mostly because I think it’d be funny to get gold in BMX biking or equestrian and see the winner wear this in everyone’s face but also because it’s so ridiculous to get mad about. It makes absolutely no sense at all. It’s not gloating or showing off, it’s just the truth, it doesn’t matter which country the person or team is from. If you win gold, you’ve achieved greatness. Simple as that. It’s the pinnacle achievement in most of these sports so of course the athletes should get to wear something like that. If you don’t like it, quit playing for silver and step your game up.
