Geovany Soto Traded To Rangers. UPDATE – Paul Malhom And Reed Johnson To Braves

(Source) Catcher Geovany Soto has been traded to the Rangers for minor-league pitcher Jacob Brigham, CBSSports.com Danny Knobler is reporting.

Soto left Monday night’s Cub game hugging teammates as if to say goodbye, and it turns out he was.

Soto, 29, is hitting .199/.284/.347 with six homers and 14 RBI this season. He was the NL Rookie of the Year and an All-Star in 2008. He hit .285/.364/.504 with 23 homers, 86 RBI and 35 doubles that season. He’s been up and down since, as he was bad in 2009, really good in 2010 and decent last season.

Little miffed by this one. Not that the Cubs traded Soto, more that anyone traded FOR Soto. Like the Rangers do realize its 2012 not 2008 right? Guy is hitting a buck 95. Jacob Brigham must be the worst pitcher in the history of pitching.

Sounds like the entire team is getting traded tonight, except for Dempster, guess he’s still being a little bitch.

Update - Malhom and Reed Johnson to the Braves. Cubs are making some SERIOUS moves right now. The excitement is palpable.

Update 2 – Forgot to say on Update 1 that I saw Reed Johnson at Crossing on Southport 2 weeks ago, guy is diesel. Like to see Tim Kurkjian bring that type of analysis to the table.

Update 3 – Do they give Emmy’s out for how fast someone can copy and paste on to a website? If they do I think I may win one with my coverage of this trade deadline.

dumping dead weight. I like it. the brigham dude sucks, but who cares. call up wellington castillo and start developing him. and brett jacksons got a spot on the bench if they want now with reed gone. interesting to see who they get from atlanta, already saw its not their top two pitching prospects so im worried.

worried to see what my braves gave up, talkingchop says none of top 5 prospects, but still talent behind that. i haven't seen reed johnson play, but he looks solid.....why move him??

@Avon.. I mean this in the nicest way possible.. Why would they want to bring up Jackson to sit on the bench. Maybe in September, but you don't call up an elite prospect unless they are going to play regularly.

yep, just read chapman and vizcaino. chapman may be in your rotation this week, vizcaino huge potential but just had TJ surgery. gotta have faith in the theo....cause he obviously loves vizcaino's stuff. would rather have not given him up for what is essentially a rental for the braves.

Loved Reed Johnson, dude never went down easy and was pretty clutch. Glad to see em making moves and am dumbfounded that they got more than a bucket of balls and a fungo bat for Soto.

As a Braves fan, I hate to see Viscaino go. He will be a #2 or 3 starter for the Cubs in 2 - 3 year, depending on how he bounces back from TJ surgery. However, I like the deal. Maholm is finally coming into his own after being a stud prospect a few years back and the team has the option on him for next year (so he's more than a rental Lameburgers). RJ is a lefty-killer and since Matt Diaz went down, the Braves desperately needed that off the bench. At this point, looks like it could be one of those trades that benefit both teams equally.
