Chicago Tribune - Two Glenview women were arrested on drug charges in the parking lot of a Wilmette Dairy Queen after an officer saw one of them shooting heroin, officials said Thursday. Wilmette police responded to a report that two women were in a parked car behind the ice cream stand in the 3500 block of Lake Avenue at 1:35 p.m. on Tuesday. An officer saw one of them stick a needle into her arm, according to a police report. Jessica L. Johnson, 20, of the 1700 block of Wildberry Drive, and Katherine S. Karls, 24, of the 1400 block of Pendleton Lane, were each charged with possession of a controlled substance and possession of drug paraphernalia.
Neither woman could be reached for comment. According to Wilmette Police Cmdr. Patrick Collins, Karls told investigators, “We had to pull the car over, she just had to have a hit.” Karls also told police that Johnson “wanted one last hit before she checked into drug rehab,” Collins said.
I can’t believe the cops are serious here. Like is this a joke? Anyone whose anyone knows that you need to have that last hurrah before checking into drug rehab. That last, fond memory of your old friend. The goodbye kiss. That secret hit in the passenger seat of your friend’s car hiding behind the ice cream truck at Dairy Queen. Obviously this cop hasn’t seen Lord of War because if he did he’d know that this was perfectly legal.
And I gotta say I really feel for Katherine Karls here. I mean it sucks enough to get bagged up for being an awesome friend and letting your girl shoot up one last time, but now you’re in jail for drug possession and you didn’t even get to do any. Just the worst feeling in the world. Your friend is laying in the corner of her cell zooted out of her skull thinking life is euphoria and you’re getting eyed down by a few butch lesbians who wanna eat you for lunch. Such a bummer.
