Huff Po - The Belgian Olympic Committee says it has told cyclist Gijs van Hoecke to leave the Olympics after photos appeared of him looking drunk and unable to walk while leaving a London nightclub. The committee said in a statement Thursday it made its decision after consulting with the team leader of the Belgian cycling squad. Several British and Belgian newspapers published photos showing the 20-year-old Van Hoecke, his eyes closed and his trousers and shirt wet, being helped into a vehicle by teammates. Van Hoecke told Belgium’s VRT radio and television network that he regretted what happened, but he was just “letting off some steam” after two years of hard work.

What a disgrace. Seriously, a midst all the judging errors, the tape delay debacles and racist but not really racist tweets, this is far and away the greatest injustice of the 2012 Olympics. Sending an athlete home because you declare him too drunk is a fucking crime. I mean yeah, when I first saw these pictures I had to double-check the headlines and make sure he wasn’t dead but who hasn’t been that fucked up before? Kid’s 20 years old and just spent probably the majority of his life training so he could compete in the greatest athletic competition in the world and he can’t blow off a little steam?

And isn’t that what the Olympic Village is all about anyway? You finally see all your hard work pay off and then you get to finally forget about training for the first time in your life and go HAM trying to drink and fuck everything that comes in your path until the closing ceremonies. This kid probably got anal twice on the cab ride home and he was totally unconscious. It’s just part of the reward for putting on a show that the whole world watches.

The lesson, as always, is Britain sucks and every great sporting event should be held in America.
