LAKE FOREST, Ill. — To advance to the playoffs, the Chicago Bears need the Green Bay Packers. But receiver Brandon Marshall refuses to root for the club’s rival up north like the rest of his teammates.
“I’m not cheering for anybody but the Bears,” Marshall said Thursday when asked how it would feel to cheer for the Packers. “That’s how it is.”
“We put ourselves in this position,” Marshall said. “Right now, it could be a good position. You never know how things will work out. All we can do is beat Detroit and sit back, have a cup of coffee, and see what happens (in the Green Bay) game.”
Provided Chicago takes care of business against the Lions and the Packers beat the Vikings, the Bears will face the San Francisco 49ers on the road in the first round of the playoffs. A victory or a 49ers loss clinches the Packers the No. 2 seed.
The 49ers can clinch the second seed (and a first-round bye), with a Packers loss to the Vikings, which would put the Bears out of the playoff hunt.
I fucking love this. B-Marsh just refusing to root for the Packers even though the Packers are the only way we’ll make the playoffs. Does it make any sense whatsoever? Absolutely not. But I’m in. I’m not rooting for the Packers either. Feels so much better than becoming a mouthbreathing inbred for 3 hours, banging on drums and repeating the same 3 words over and over while I drool on my gunt.
Either way I said it a couple of weeks ago and I’ll say it again, Brandon Marshall has been absolutely incredible this year. He literally has taken every expectation we had when we traded for him and exceeded it by a million. On the field beast, off the field quiet. Totally buying into being a Bear. Seems to genuinely love Chicago. The total package. Can you even imagine what this season would have been like without him? Its terrifying to think about, just remembering Roy Williams and Hester last year running around pretending to be receivers honestly sends chills down my spine. So if B-Marsh says we’re not rooting for the Packers then we’re not rooting for the Packers. Just going to sip my coffee and see what happens.
What commercial is “Its The Total Package” from? Is it Pugi Nissan? Literally been in my head all morning and I can’t get it out.
