BOISE — The third-largest Powerball jackpot ever will be awarded Wednesday night, and lottery officials say don’t bet against a winner from Idaho. The prize swelled to $485 million after no one bought a winning ticket for Saturday’s drawing. “That would be a lot of excitement, if something like that happened here, and Idaho’s no stranger to winning,” Idaho Lottery spokesman David Workman said. “We’ve had big jackpot wins before.”

Past winners from Idaho include Brad Duke, who won $220.3 million dollars in 2005. Pam Hiatt brought home $87.5 in 1995 and Martha Gibbons won $22.1 million in 1992. Still, the he odds of winning a Powerball jackpot are only about one in 175 million. “Idaho has been very lucky for a state with a smaller population like we have here,” Workman said. “We’ve actually had eight jackpot winners since we introduced Powerball back in the 1990’s, and in fact in the very first Powerball draw that we held here, we actually had a jackpot winner.” Idaho’s first winner took home $2 million dollars. Workman says the stakes are even higher this time around, with a prize of nearly half a billion dollars. It’s the third largest Powerball jackpot in the game’s history and the fifth largest jackpot of all time for the world. That massive jackpot has already attracted massive attention, and lottery officials are urging would-be winners not to wait.

FOUR HUNDRED AND EIGHTY FIVE MILLION. That’s a lot of guacamole right there. So the question is, how do I get my hands on that? Well good news for you guys, I’m going to let you in on a little secret. My 5 Tips to winning the Power Ball jackpot. Proven to never work but maybe this time?

1. Always buy tickets from multiple locations – Common mistake Powerball newbies make. They load up 100 dollars at a single store and pray that it works out. Wrong. You need to buy tickets at a minimum of 3 places. If you really want to get smart you go to different counties. If you want to be a genius, you travel to a different state. Widest area possible always wins.

2. Never let anyone cut you in line. Walking into the 7-11 or Gas Station you’ll probably have one of those moments. Maybe a woman is right behind you and you think, oh I’ll be nice and hold the door for her. DONT. That woman will win the Powerball 100 out of 100 times. There is no common courtesy when hundreds of millions of dollars are on the line. Don’t be a pussy, take what’s yours.

3. If the person selling you the ticket has teeth, don’t buy the ticket. Simple misconception people have, that the cashier doesn’t matter. So so wrong. You need to find the poorest part of town, you need to find the filthiest nastiest gas station, and that is where you purchase your ticket. Powerball winners don’t come from rich places, that’s actually a scientific fact. So if the cashier is reasonably put together, that’s a losing ticket. Bonus points if someone in or around the location is smoking crack.

4. Office Pools – Anyone who offers you do it. That actually goes for all walks of life. Office pools, random friends, girlfriends whatever. If someone asks you to get in a Powerball pool you have to say yes, if you don’t, they’ll win and send you a Christmas Card from their island every year until you put a bullet in your head.

5. Convince yourself that you will win. See it, believe it. Powerball is 10% luck and 90% mental. You think I’m joking but let me ask you this. Have you ever won Powerball? No, exactly. Follow my rules and give me a cut of your winnings. Good talk, see you out there, but don’t expect me to hold any doors for you. This is officially dog eat dog day.
