The matchup will be made up in Minnesota at a later date. The arena was evacuated about 45 minutes before the scheduled 9:30 p.m. EST tipoff when a generator malfunction outside the arena sent smoke pouring into the building, according to NBA spokeswoman Sharon Lima. Mexico City Police said in a statement there was a fire in the generator room on the fourth floor of the modern glass-clad arena that opened in 2012. “What happened was provoked by a short circuit in the room of generators,” the statement said in Spanish.About 15 minutes after the scheduled start, the Spurs bus pulled away from the building. The Timberwolves bus followed soon after.

Oh wait, the answer is Everything. Everything could go wrong.  Bang up job by Mexico last night. Look, I don’t know what a pregame checklist looks like for a country about to host their first regular season NBA game and finally get the main stage for a second but if I were the one coordinating it would probably look like this.

That’s it. 2 things. Mexico seemed to accomplish the first, second, not so much. Not exactly giving us all faith that you have your shit together Mexico when you can’t give us one night of smoke free non exploding basketball.

How about Ronny Turiaf. The one time you’d think a huge black guy with corn rows guzzling orange juice and energy drinks at 8 pm would get recognized as something other than “unidentified man” would be when a basketball game is being played in Mexico. Nope, no such luck. Can’t be more anonymous than that.
