@UNHblackout Twitter Handle Causing Controversy At UNH

Seacoastonline – “Do you and your friends enjoy blacking out?” asks an anonymous host for the Twitter site UNH blackout (@UNHblackout). “Does your liver hate you?” “Tweet your pics,” the site invites. On dozens of occasions, University of New Hampshire students have complied by posting photos portraying what appear to be sad endings to bouts of binge drinking. Coeds appear slumped near toilets and over wastebaskets, more often than not with what should be embarrassing glimpses of their undergarments and body parts. Photos are posted of young people face down, fetal, and pouring liquids into themselves with plastic tubes and funnels. Durham Police Chief David Kurz said, “The goal today appears to be, ‘Let’s get drunk.'” “It creates a lot of dangerous behavior,” Kurz warned. “We’ve rescued people, literally from the middle of a swamp and from snowbanks, because they thought it was a shortcut to wherever. A lot of what we do in Durham is to help them live through it.”

I’d love to know who at Seacoast Online decided this was going to be an actual article? Like what editor was like “yup we’re going to do a story on @UNHblackout and the DOZENS of pictures they’ve posted of people blacking out? Dozens of pictures as in 12. And I love the Durham police chief chiming in too. “The goal today appears to be let’s get drunk.” Oh is that a new thing for college kids? Like 30 years ago college kids weren’t drinking or something? I guess this whole blacking out thing is a new phenomenon? Like Revenge of the Nerds, Animal House, etc were all made up out of thin air. Hey newsflash assholes. College kids drink. Durham is a college town. As long as UNH exits that’s never gonna change. Just because social media didn’t exist 10 years ago doesn’t mean anything has changed. You might as well write a story on how it gets cold during the winter.
