What Should the Penalty Be For Erik Spoelstra Cheating Last Night?

A lot of people are talking about this play today and rightfully so. Russell Westbrook getting ready to take a seemingly wide open game tying 3 with 20 seconds left only to have Erik Spoelstra run 3 feet onto the court and become the closest defender. We’ll never know whether this shot would have gone in if Spoelstra didn’t blatantly cheat, but what I do know is he needs to be suspended for the rest of the series. Yes I know David Stern wants the Heat to win, but you still need to keep some shred of integrity. You can’t just let coaches become the 6th defender on the floor. And what was Joey Crawford doing? Bro you don’t find it strange that your view is blocked by the coach? Automatic techinical. Automatic.

PS – I don’t want to hear all the Bron Bron apologists say that I’m over blowing this either. If you’re getting ready to shoot and some guy runs at you from the corner of your eye wearing a different color than anybody else on the floor that is distracting. For all Westbrook knew that was a crazy fan who ran onto the court. It’s totally and completely unacceptable and just shows how bad the league is rigged. Hell it wouldn’t surprise me if Spolestra was actually wearing an earpiece and Stern told him to rush the court. “GO NOW!!! GO NOW!!! BLOCK IT!!!”

the heat have been getting away with murder in this post season, but most of the stuff they get away with is subtle so as not to arouse suspicion that the refs are helping but this is flat out obvious that they are getting the benefit of the doubt. but spoelstra being suspended wouldnt even hurt the heat since no one on the team even listens to him.

I cant make a statement about Scottie Pippen because I am not old enough. But I do not believe Scotty Pippen could guard every position on the court. Lebrons goes from guarding Derrick Rose to Dwight Howard for a couple minutes the next game. Last year Lebron's average shot was from 22 feet, now its at 11. I believe hes shooting around 20% outside the paint these last couple games. I'm not sure how you know I only watch the highlights. I could truly say that I watched 85%+ heat games. I lived in Washington D.C this year and watched the games on Vipbox.tv. And I would purposly watch ESPN the next day to hear how Lebron missed a shot with 25 seconds to go. But there would be no mention how Lebron made 2 threes in a row to comeback when they were down by 6. Your assumtion of how my idea about the Heat is false.

How that wasnt called when Crawford had to move out of the way is very strange. I hate the Heat but I think they will win in 5.

I always love "your a moron". Completely invalidates any shred of an argument someone has right off the bat. Saying that the deepest teams, best bench etc. are not the ones that usually win the Championships and it's all about "the stars" only further validates the league using the referees to control the games and influence the outcomes. The league caters to the star players to benefit ratings. Hence why players like James get away with charging, defensive fouls and blatant traveling on a regular basis. Just an awful, virtually unwatchable sport.

I would be surprised if you are the kind of basketball fan who says "Oh man the NBA is rigged, the Celtics had 30 fouls and the Heat only had 8." What are the refs suppose to do? Get together and say that "the heat have less fouls, lets call more on them." The heat always have less fouls cause "virtually" DWade LBJ and Chris drive to the basket and initiate contact. Rondo and Ray Allen divert from the contract.

You all are idiots. I agree that this was a foul. It should have been free throws. Spoelstra does this constantly. The main difference is that he was close to the shooter on the opposite team, not trying to get the attention of the Ref to call a timeout. Another acceptable time a coach can be on the floor, is when he is calling an offensive play. This was ridiculous and should have been called. I'm not going to site here and say that the game was decided here, there are many other instances when OKC lost it for themselves. But the truest statement ever is that the Thunder lost the game, the Heat didn't win anything. All that being said, I have to agree that a lot of slack is given to the heat. How many times did DWade hit a Thunder player in the arm or the head when they layed up. How many times did Lebron have his hands all over Durant? Tons of times. The funny part is, most of these fouls that wern't called, were shown on replay when ESPN was going into a commercial. I'm not saying that David Stern pays off the refs. In fact, why would Stern want to see the heat win? He gets more money from people watching the heat lose? On another note, I am not a fan of the Heat or Lebron in general. I feel as though, way before he was putting up the numbers he is now, he was a self proclaimed superstar. In my opinion, if you're so good, go to college and learn some other technique other than opening your mouth and saying you are "King James" before you've even won anything. As for the "Pep Rally" that Bosh Wade and James were at, that was the biggest show of disrespect I've ever seen. That's like the yankees haveing a "pep rally" for signing the top 5 pitchers for their rotaion. Bosh and James did nothing in their careers that deserves that kind of "show". AS for "promising" 7+ championships, yes it was a "pep rally" but you, as a high paid superstar, are held to a higher standard. You don't gloat before you've won anything. At that point, the three of them have done nothing together. All the sports reporters out there are saying that Fans and "heat haters" are setting the bar too high for the heat. Upsets aren't exciting when they happen 1/3rd of the time. Do you bust your nut every time a 10-seed beats a 7 in March you twat? I hate parity when parity means that there are 18 teams of approximately the same skill level. I like parity when it means that there are elite teams, good teams, above average teams, mediocre teams, below average teams, bad teams, and shit teams but the teams from the bottom can rebuild and make it to the top while still having an outside chance at beating one of the good/elite teams on "any given sunday" (ie: rams-saints last year was pretty damn surprising unlike Kings>Canucks). I also like it when a mediocre or above-average team can upset an elite team in the playoffs, and I like it when a team that was only above-average in the regular season can go on a run that makes it clear they are actually an elite team that fucked up during the regular season. You could certainly argue that the Kings proved to be an elite team similar to NYG in football last year (I would agree with you). What I am saying is that upsets are fucking boring as shit when they happen too often, and that takes a lot of the excitement out of the game. However, that is for me personally and I can understand why someone would like how it is in hockey where 12/16 teams probably have a legit chance to win it all whereas in football or basketball most years only half the playoff participants have a real chance. ie: Broncos, Falcons, Texans, Bengals, Lions clearly weren't winning a championship last year (to clarify, I say Texans because of Yates, with Schaub theyd have been a legit SB contender).

@ezbreezey you must be referring to PP circa 2005. He averaged at least 7.8 free throw attempts a game for 7 straight years (about 9 FTA/game total over that period). Each of the last two years he has averaged 5.6. If you need this broken down further, he shoots about 40% less free throws per game than he used to despite playing only 10% less minutes per game. He attempted 14.6 shots per game this year and had 5.6 FT/game In '04-'05 he attempted 14.9 shots per game and had 8.1 FT/game Clearly. Does. Not. Play. The. Same. Way.

The ad hom attacks are because that is my experience with 90% of the people who I classified above. The people who bitch about the NBA are usually either incredible douches or people who just don't like watching basketball. The second group doesn't bother me, I feel the same way about plenty of sports. It's the first group that pisses me off. All these people who trash the NBA with stupid arguments that are easily refuted are annoying as hell. It's my third favorite of the big 4 leagues, but that doesn't make it any less annoying when people cry "stern", "rigged", "donaghy" everytime something happens that can easily be explained more logically. I'm not saying that superstars don't sometimes get favorable treatment. The funny thing is that this is more on the defensive side of the ball than offensive, whereas people always bitch about the opposite. The refs absolutely let bron, durant, etc. get away with fouls if they are in foul trouble, but they aren't trying to send lebron to the line 15 times a game for no reason. Lebron attempts a ton of shots near the basket and often tries to initiate contact. Compare him and Wade to players like Pierce, Allen, Garnett (lots of Js) or Rondo (tries to avoid contact) and you can see why the Heat went to the line more than the Celtics. To the non-biased observer it looked like the Celtics actually got a slight benefit from the officials in the series, but officiating wasn't the difference one way or the other. It rarely is. Sacramento got fucked, but 99% of the time bitching about refs is vaginal and baseless.

Refs blowing calls isn't necessarily a sign of bias and fixing, it's just hard as fuck to get those calls right with no replay. Dumb people sure do love their conspiracy theories and I will never change that, I have no idea why I keep trying. It's funny because usually people like simple, but when it comes to explaining certain events they often avoid the simplest, obvious explanations. For example: the Heat draw a ton of free throws because their players are fouled a lot. It really is that simple.

spoelstra wasn't even close to going 3' (ONE YARD) onto the court...fucking guy was a step and half max on the court and he was to the side and behind westbrook. westbrook never even saw him or reacted like he was there THEREFORE its nothing but a fucking excuse. people bitch all day about lebron and the heat getting away with murder but watch lebron off the ball the entire game...he gets fucking shoved and hacked all day (yes, by durant as well). people hack wade and lebron all the time so stop bitching about just them getting away with murder. also, LEBRON (and wade typically) GOES TO THE LINE MORE THAN EVERYONE HE GUARDS BECAUSE HE'S THE ONLY ONE WHO DRIVES ALL DAY. how often is a foul called on a jump shot (pierce, durant, etc etc)??? exactly. lebron is the best player in the league and is showing why. guy scores, rebounds, passes and plays defense. durant scores and rebounds inconsistently (7' tall should get you more rebounds than 8)

Lebron is a good, nay, great player. But if you don't think he and the Heat are getting special treatment then you, my friend, are the special one. Lebron drives to the basket like Jim Brown and it doesn't matter if he is touched or not and you will hear a whistle. On the rare, yes rare instance that he doesn't get the call he puts on the sour puss face and looks around as if "What? NO foul??? Do you know who I am? Watch ESPN!!! They'll tell you who I am!!!" Durant got called for at least 2 fouls where he clearly did not commit a foul and has not gotten the calls when he clearly gets hacked. i'm a Celtics fan so I am clearly biased but even i can see when the Celtics get a call handed to them. I don't mind it, but i am aware of it. If you think the refs aren't obviously calling it in the Heat's favor you are a liar and a comeplete douche-twat. Also; It's an automatic T when a coach runs onto the floor during live action. They don't call it much but that should have been an easy call. If you can't see that you are not a fan, nor someone that should be left alone with a computer or elmers glue and a lot of glitter.. And someone that should go fuck themselves.
