Oxford – Several youth baseball parents in Oxford are enraged after seeing a video that shows a youth baseball coach from Wilton flipping out on an umpire during a game at Posy Panko Field in Oxford last weekend. The video, which is attached to this article, shows how a coach from Wilton reacts when what he perceives as a bad call is made by an umpire during a 12-year-old all star game. The incident went on for so long that a parent took out her phone and began recording the belligerent coach’s actions before the umpire stopped the game because of the coach. Parent Lisa Suttile, who serves as an assistant coach on the team, said she was embarrassed by the coach’s actions not only because of the way he spoke to the umpire, but also because how he spoke to his team, by belittling them and swearing while describing the way they played. That portion was not caught on video.
“You just don’t speak to umpires like that and you certainly don’t speak to kids like that,” Suttile said. “This was uncalled for.”
First things first. You can’t make a team forfeit an all star game because the coach is an asshole. That’s just about the most un-american thing I’ve ever heard of in my life. You throw the guy out and then move on. I mean say whatever you want about Teddy Aberezizi, but no way would he ever make a team forfeit in this situation. He may have a heart to heart with his hot dog for half an hour, but he’s still gonna let the thing be decided on the field like it should be. The only thing more ridiculous than making them forfeit is the fact this team has a chick assistant coach. How did that happen? This is all stars we’re talking about here. This isn’t a rec league softball game. You know what happens when you have a chick assistant coach? She rats on the head coach. You get what you pay for.
