In A Weird Way I Respect The Hell Out of the NFL For Giving The World The Bird

It takes a guy with a giant dick to admit when they are wrong. Well guess what? I’m the guy with the giant dick because I was wrong when I said on Monday that the Hail Mary Interception play would end the scab referee era. I greatly underestimated just how much the NFL doesn’t give a fuck about anybody but themselves. And guess what? I kind of respect them for it. They think the deal they are offering the refs is fair and they ain’t going to cave in just because everybody is freaking the fuck out. They have everybody by the short hairs here and they know it. It’s like they are daring fans to stop watching the games. Nobody can do it. They know we’re still going to buy tickets, gamble, watch and give them the highest ratings possible regardless of who the fuck calls the game. So why should they cave? The market is what the market is. If fans stop watching game well then guess what? They’ll pay the refs. It’s just like the players strike back in the 80’s. We didn’t even stop watching then. Football is like water. Americans can’t live without it. So they have all the power. They know it. I know it. Everybody knows it. Doesn’t matter how many bad calls there are or how many stupid change.org petitions are going around about the refs. Doesn’t matter what the players tweet. Doesn’t matter how many messages people leave the league office. If you don’t like it stop giving them your money. It’s that simple. Until then Goodell is just going to keep cock slapping us in the face and laugh doing it. Love it or hate it, you got to admit it’s kind of gangsta.

Its nice to see anybody stand up to unions and their ridiculous pension demands. How are those pensions working out in california? At GM? Unions completely destroyed the US auto market....there is a reason car manufacturi has been almost completely relocated to the South where "right to work" states discourage unionization......go goodell....401ks are good enough for us, they should suffice for nfl refs who are part-time employees....

RC Cola: you are right that it was an over-simplification. But their part in the overall failure was large....research the bailout to GM. It was tantamount to a giant union paycheck. GM was nearing insolvency and if bankrupt, the union agreement would be subject to re-negotiation. This created a panic in union leadership. Then astonishingly, America took a huge step towards nationalizing an industry....can you imagine the anger at a company like Ford who NEVER asked for handouts from the government?.......The bailout's payout structure was a union payoff. Plain and simple...

@christosteron I fully agree with you regarding unions and GM's situation, but the NFL's is much different. Obviously these refs are a key component in regards to producing a quality product. And the $3 million require to bring them back is a drop in the bucket in comparison to the $9 billion in revenue that the NFL brought in last year. It's apples and oranges really. You can't jeopardize a $9 billion product in order to save $3 million, that would be idiotic.

You guys are dopes, unions make up 11% of the entire U.S. workforce, stop blaming them for 100% of the problem. Even if we paid manufactuing jobs minimum wage ($7.25/hr) it would still be shitloads higher than the Chinese make which is roughly $207 USD per month (Highest provincial minimum wage in CHN) for 12 hour days. Corporations are in business to make profit, not jobs, as long as they can outsource for a fraction of what they pay here they'll continue to do so and those corporate tax breaks everybody clamors for will go right into their bank accounts.

Other part is that the NFL didn't have to lock the refs out. The refs still could be playing without a contract and could negotiate it during the season. But the cunt Commissioner and NFL decided to lock them out. Which is bullshit.

@chicago, Goodell would get fired for this? It's the owners call at this point, they're the ones who are continuing this lockout and setting the precedent. It's literally a fraction of 1% more (I don't even know how small it's so small) of their yearly revenue to get the real officials back into the league, yet they refuse to do it even though it's significantly hurting the product. But what the fuck do they care, we're still watching like sheep and will continue to.I also do understand there is the pension issue as well, but other sports survive just fine with unionized officials (MLB, NBA) you'd think we could figure it out here.

According to some deadspin article I just read... what the refs want will cost each team $100,000 per year......... enough is enough... The NFL requires each ref has 10 years experience and at least 5 years in Division 1. Almost none of these replacement refs meet those guideline.Give the refs what they want. For a paltry 3.2 Million a year for the league, it's the salary of a one friggin player.it's fucking ridiculous. end this shit already. Football is the perfect sport to watch. Each game carries so much weight, and hardcore fans spend a good portion of money on tickets, jerseys, hats, team logo clothing, etc... respect the game, respect your fans... put the best possible product on the field... and the refs do matter.

meowmix, the officials in other sports work full-time schedules. these greedy motherless fucks work 3 hours a week for 5 months a year and want a pension that pays them about $30,000 each per year plus an extra $40,000/year each in salary. fuck them, let them try to find another part time job that pays them anywhere near what the nfl already does for that amount of work. just cuz your employer is making ltos of money doesnt mean every asshat who works in the organization deserves to be insanely overpaid.

The other officials work full time schedules? Granted, they obviously work more games, but NBA officials work 3-4 nights a week MAX for a total of about 10-14 hours a week (if you count game time, I would count time spent outside of games working as well, just like NFL officials). Not to mention the perks the officials in other leagues get, you should see some of the benefits MLB umpires get, it's insane.As is the case in many disputes, both sides are a little in the wrong. I just happen to think the NFL is more in the wrong by making their $9 billion business use division 3 officials, which makes the product MUCH worse.

The USPS is in trouble because congress passed the Postal Accountability and Enhancement Act in 2006 which forces the post office to pre-fund its retirement account 75 years into the future within 10 years. This means that the USPS has to make a $5.2 billion payment each year to fund the retirement of future employees. Gotta love election years. The NFL knows it can rely on anti-union sentiment to get otherwise rational fans to cheer on the destruction of the games. As if any of the ordinary concerns about unions actually apply to the NFL. The reason the NFL has dug in is not to "stand up to the unions", you fucking retards. It is because the NFL is sending a message to the players, tv networks, and other entities it bargains with that the league does not bow to pressure. Why? Because there is a feeling the league made some concessions to the players to end the lock out, and the NFl wants to use the refs to show it is strong and ruthless. That's it. Nothing more. No politics. No complicated issues about pensions or part time employees. This is about crushing an opponent in front of the nation. The problem is that it might fail spectacularly. If the league caves, it will be much worse than the end of the player lockout. I'd say Goodell's job depends on winning this fight.
