I’m Remarkably Intrigued By The Idea Of Chris Johnson Racing Usain Bolt

(LATimes) — Playing in the NFL requires a certain amount of bravado and Tennessee Titans running back Chris Johnson is clearly not lacking in that department. Johnson, after all, told reporters that he could beat Usain Bolt in a short race. “I feel like if I would have kept training for track I’d have a chance, but I play football and he runs track, so it’s totally different,” Johnson said. “I think I could still probably beat him in the 40. If I actually trained for the distance he trained for, I think I’d have a chance.” Bolt is considered the fastest man alive after winning the 100-meter race in an Olympic-record time of 9.63 seconds.

I don’t know why. I really don’t. I just get a kick out of people saying they can beat the people who set world records and are literally the fastest people in the history of Earth. I mean who the hell does that? Takes some serious balls to shoot off at the mouth and say stuff like you’re faster than the fastest man in the world or even something like you’re a better swimmer than the best swimmer in the world. Usain Bolt is the fastest person to every tie his shoes. Only a person with a mouthful of gold teeth and an IQ that would get you a stay of execution anywhere but Texas would claim he’s faster.

This has been pretty conclusively settled. Bolt would run a 4.1- 4.2ish 40, based on what people have calculated based on the video of his races. He'd beat CJ. Also the bed bugs ads are fucking gross. You guys really gotta scrape the bottom of the barrel for ad's since babygate huh?

@jagglesnaggle - you serious man? it can take about 40-50 yards to get to full speed, so you can't just take the 40 time and multiply by 2.5. Bolt runs the final 40 of the 100 in about 3.3 seconds, so it takes him around 6.4 to run the first 60. It'd be a good race

You guys are fucking idiots - "it'd be a good race" - no it fucking wouldn't. If we're talking 100m Johnson would be in low/mid 10's, that's a fucking ass whooping. if it were just the 40 yard dash it wouldn't LOOK like annihilation but I'm guessing Bolt could drop a 4 flat or sub 4. The question is why the hell doesn't an NFL team try and get Bolt on the field, if fucking Tim Dwight could play then Bolt certainly could. Even though its a dead play in the NFL a simple toss/pitch would be lights out w/ this fucking guy. Now Deion Sanders....there was a guy who probably could have been an olympic sprinter.

Actually if you do the math, Chris Johnson would run a 100 meter dash in roughly 11.6 seconds. That is just extrapolated from his 40 yard time, however, as this is making the assumption he would be running the same speed throughout. Maybe the variables would even themselves out though (i.e. more distance to get to max speed, slower speed at the end due to fatigue).

You guys are all idiots except for the wombshifter. We're talking about whether an NFL player could beat Bolt in the 40, not how NFL players would compare to Bolt in the 100. The information is already there. You don't need to extrapolate CJ's numbers, you can just look at what Bolt has done through 40m of his 100m races...and based on that, there are a decent number of guys in the NFL who could beat Bolt in that distance. Deadspin already covered this. Bolt, who has the advantage of starting out of blocks, and running on a perfect surface, would run about a 4.65 40 based on his Beijing and Berlin 100m times. His average reaction time between the two races is about 0.15s, so we can say he runs a 4.5, if he is in charge of the start, like when doing the 40. There are a lot of NFL players who run sub-4.5, AND they do it on grass with no blocks. I'm not sure CJ is fast anymore, so I'm not saying he would beat Bolt, but plenty of NFL players could. Nobody could come anywhere near Bolt in a full-field-length race, though.

The conversion from meters to yards probably adds a tenth to the 40yd time (40m = 43yd or so)...still doesn't change the result much.

Feitelberg, for a jew, you're one dumb fuck. Tests have been done on Bolt's world record setting 100m. The splits from these tests show that he ran between a 4.2-4.3 40 with starting blocks. Bolt's first 40 yards are his biggest weakness, he doesn't reach his top speed until about 50m. Johnson would win whether the race was with starting blocks or the 3 point sandusky is going to violate you stance. Do some fucking reading when you're recovering between fap sessions, you might actually sound smarter than neil for once.

when this challenge was news back in 2008, ESPN Magazine did an article on it. In which they had the best side-column ever. The column was best inter-sport competitions ever (including Bolt vs. Johnson) but their sidebar broke the mold and had Jay Cutler vs. Jamarcus Russell in a QB skills competition. And I paraphrase: "this is pointless because Jamarcus Russell would overthrow his tire by 70 yards and Jay Cutler would keep throwing it in Russell's tire".

You can't guess what CJ's 100m time would be based on his 40yard dash time using that math even with the yards- meters conversion. The average speed for the final 60m is going to be faster than the average speed for the first 40m because for the first 40m he's accelerating from a stand still and not running top speed that whole time. That being said, CJ is fucking delusional if he thinks he can stay close with Bolt. He's fast, but he can't compete with any of the Olympic finalists.

Bolts fastest 40m split in his Berlin run that set the 100m record was from 60m to the finish line (final 40m) he ran it in 3.27 sec, granted that was with 60m buildup thats fucking flying....he ran the final 60m of the race sub-5sec

yards are not the same length as metres so their times are difficult to compare for their respective races. only way to settle this is racing. its ok though, chris johnson will pull up with a fake hamstring injury- a la michael johnson vs donavan bailey- when its apparent he's lost

Chris Johnson said his fasted 100m time was 10.3 to Bolts 9.58, Bolt wins the 100m by a landslide 200 by even more....40 which is the argument would prob be close

I have never seen such intelligence. Yards are longer than meters and chris johnson can only run a 12 second 100 based on his 40. No way Johnson can beat bolt in the 40. Bolt isn't a great starter, but he's not going to lose to a guy whose best 100 is MAYBE 10.3. Hundreds in the world can run that.
