(Billings) -- A West Virginia man is recovering and another man is in jail after what authorities described as a random shooting on Saturday night near Glasgow. Valley County Sheriff Glen Meier said that on Saturday night, Raymond Dolin, 39, was sitting on the side of Highway 2 a few miles west of Glasgow and waiting for a ride when a man drove up in a maroon pickup, shot him and drove off shortly before 6 p.m. Dolin, from West Virginia, is hitchhiking across the country and writing a memoir called “The Kindness of America,” Meier said.
I’m not entirely sure what the definition of “ironic” is but I’m pretty sure this is it. Raymond Dolin just thumbing his way across the bible belt writing about how sweet and giving and kind everybody is only to get rolled up on and pumped full of lead for no reason. I can’t wait to read this book. It’s almost 6 PM as I sit a few miles outside of Glasgow. Everyone I have met thus far has been incredibly kind. They aren’t lying when they talk about Southern Hospitality. Below the Maso-Dixon line they truly are a hard-working, God-fearing class of people. I could use a ride to the next town. Oh look, here comes a gentleman in a maroon pickup truck. There’s no way he isn’t incredibly nice. Whoops! He just whipped out a pistol and shot me for no reason at all. America the beautiful indeed.
