PROVIDENCE, R.I. – Former Red Sox [team stats] pitcher Curt Schilling [stats] has called Rhode Island’s governor a “dunce of epic proportions” in the wake of his video gaming company’s collapse. Schilling criticized Gov. Lincoln Chafee in a Saturday exchange on Twitter about the collapse of 38 Studios, which got a $75 million loan guarantee from the state in 2010. Schilling tweeted that “if the state loses money it’s because the Governor is a dunce of epic proportions, nothing I can do about that.” 38 Studios filed for bankruptcy in June.
So let me get this straight. Curt Schilling just lost 50 million dollars off his own money and blew through a 75 million dollar loan from RI and bankrupted a company. He thought because he liked video games he should start his own video game company even though he had absolutely no idea what he was doing. His business plan was so flawed that he couldn’t convince one private investor to back him. Yet despite all this he is calling the guy who wouldn’t give him more taxpayer dollars to waste “a dunce of epic proportions.” All things considered that may be the most arrogant, preposterous, ridiculous quote ever uttered by anybody in the history of mankind. And yet I wouldn’t expect anything less from Curt Schilling. Because Curt Schilling is always the smartest guy in the room. Just ask him.
