Sox Prospect Arrested For DUI, Driving 111 In A 45
BOSTON (CBS) — Red Sox pitching prospect Drake Britton was arrested over the weekend for DUI, reckless driving and property damage. Britton, 23, was arrested 4:42 a.m. early Saturday morning and was released at 10:41 a.m. on $2,250 bond. The three charges are misdemeanors, and he is due in court on March 18. The Boston Herald reported that Britton was driving as fast as 111 mph in a 45 mph zone. Britton reportedly drove off the road and through a fence, and he also “attempted to drive into the woods before finally coming to a stop.” When asked to show ID, Britton reportedly gave the officer a credit card. Britton was among three cuts from the major league roster on Monday.
I wanted to comapre this kid to Bryce Brentz, the kid who shot himself in the leg, but I’m finding it a little difficult. Spring Training is basically Spring Break. You’re in Florida, you’re with all your friends, you’re surrounded by hot girls all the time. Only a matter of time before someone gets good and liquored up then catches a DUI. Actually pretty surprised this doesn’t happen a lot more often. I was down in Florida for baseball in high school and all we did act like we were in college. I’m sure it’s the same at both ends of the spectrum. So while 111 in a 45 may be a teensy bit excessive, I get where he’s coming from.
