Bobby Cox would do a lot of the -y nickname stuff as well.

It's pretty prevalent in hockey too. Most of them just add 'ey' or 'ie' to the last name. Hockey coaches use them all the time because they're talking to the same guys they know and deal with on a daily basis. It's really up to the print reporter how he words it. Audio obviously speaks for itself.
But I think this is just a anti-Yankee thing with GoT.
I could throw a knuckle ball.... unfortunately my coach thought that was a dying pitch so I wasn't allowed to develop it. If you don't see the humor in a 300lb pitcher trying to throw a 55 MPH pitch you are dead.
Well his agents aren't doing a good job of working the media. He's going to come out of this looking pretty stupid- should have taken the 3/45 and spent his entire press conference talking about team, staying loyal to one team, etc.
