The contracting jobs for 100-200k or more in Iraq and Afghanistan are great gigs if you don't mind the dust, shitty weather in some areas, time away from home and being stuck on a compound with jack shit to do and little or no booze/pussy and getting up at 3:30 am to watch football on a shitty internet feed. I think the first $95k or so is tax free, after that you're paying taxes but still looking at well over $100k take home pay, and aside from bills and anything else you have back home there's hardly anything to spend it on.

Unless you're a native Dari speaker and have an interpreter job that involves actually going out on missions with us, you're in little or no real danger on a walled compound surrounded by dudes with M4s...if you're not going outside the wire the only danger at most bases is mortar/rocket attacks and you have a better chance of getting stabbed on the Orange Line than you do of being killed or seriously hurt by indirect fire.

BTW if any of you out there actually is a native Dari/Pashtu/Arabic speaker and a US citizen, that's a fucking GOLD MINE.

I think he's journeyman. Local 103. There was no work and none on horizon. Not sure how he heard about job. But you basically sacrifice a year of any social life, outside world, shit like Philly said. I wanna say he made over 100K and none was taxed. Because you don't spend any you do get to save a bunch. He also went to American Samoa and Africa for a bit. And like MCA said, I wouldn't do it for a million. Not worth it.

MCA, I've been to Mexico and I know the tourist spots are safe...for now. I just think that Mexico is more of a dice roll than it was 20 years ago, safe areas included.
