Wow. Talk about wanting a do-over.

I came out of the zoo with under $20k in loans. Every one of my siblings (all privates) were looking at at least 2.5 times that amount upon graduation, except for my oldest sister who did ROTC and had the army pay for that shit. I probably had the best time and got the best education on the deal too. Advantage: me.

I've thought about grad school a lot but the fact that my loans are almost paid off makes me hesitant to borrow more and go through the same thing again in a couple years. If I got/get laid off and can't find something quick plan B is to go back to school though. Hopefully by the time I was out everything would be A-OK with the economy.

Basically I have zero regrets, except I would have majored in something else probably.

my only consolation is that there's no shortage of crazy out there... so once i'm fully licensed, i think i'll be alright....

next couple years might be a little rough.

once I knew I was not going to be a teacher I applied to grad school. I got accepted to Ball State to get my masters in history, but then I thought then what? I wanted to get my PhD but then I asked then what? $40-60k in debt with a history degree. Now, some almost 20 years later here I am in south Florida without a pot to piss in.

Did I choose wisely?

sure. But in the spirit of the thread I 'could be' a published associate professor somewhere. And that still appeals to me a lot.

state school in PA for 5yrs for 10k a year....with a fisheries biology degree, chemistry minor and a economics minor (dont ask)....still owe 20k and dont even do anything remotely close to what I went to school for....but I am happy

Make it happen. I have similar thoughts about things. Fear of failure and fear of success can be equally crippling. But shit doesn't just happen, you gots to make it happen.

I im hoping to go back to school, would like to get in with a company that has some sort of tuition assistance if not i'll evaluate and most likely bite the bullet.

Guy sounds like a whinebag. Nobody had a gun to his head to a) go to law school (I didn't know they 'promised' you work) and b) knock up his wife.

I had a goal of working in an ad agency and thinking up creative shit and went with a marketing degree with a computer science minor. Senior year I realized the agency route was toxic and a small percentage of agency guys actually are successful so I focused on my CS minor. Worked four years in direct marketing for Staples, got laid off after 9/11, got back into marketing on the sales side with my current company, didn't like the instability of a steady paycheck and transitioned over to IT.

I ain't using my major, but man that minor came in handy, and the $30K in loans is manageable for what I got.
