I love how people still think the Padres are going to trade their franchise player (and hometown guy)for prospects after being in the playoff hunt all year.

If the Sox want Gonzalez they need to be prepared to trade Clay plus prospects.

Please tell me how the Rays will suck next year.

Pads won't be able to resign him after 2011, the last year of his deal. And they don't really expect to be in the hunt every year.

Rays will be losing lots of guys and not replacing them. They will not be bidding for Crawford, and will be trading at least one starter, likely Garza, I'd guess. And their pen CAN'T be as good next year.

They won't "suck", but they'll be a clear 3rd best if the Sox address their issues.

I have no idea what the Padres roster looks like but they also get Chris Young back for a full year and they play in a shitty division.

They're not trading Gonzalez in the off season unless they hit the motherload. Something like Salty and Mike Lawrie.

Garza ain't going anywhere. He's got 3 more years of arbitration . Soriano, Crawford, and Hawpe will all be free agents.

Garza could go BECAUSE he is arb. eligible. They aren't going to pay him an arbitration # if they truly are looking to get into the payroll neighborhood they are talking about.

Longoria should be highest pd Ray until Price gets paid.

I'm not. He'll bring the most back in return. Throwing Lester and Lee twice out there in a 7 game series against the Yankees would be off the charts

Lee is going to want 6 years and 20mm per.....they won't do that, especially with SuperStuds Lackey and Beckett signed long term.

They won't do anything big rotation wise.....there is no room. They should throw their money at bullpen and Crawford, and figure out what to do with Ortiz. If Ortiz wants to be in Boston, it's the option or 2 yrs. for 18mm total. He's not getting anything more from Boston.

And Clay isn't going anywhere. If they trade a starter, it's Dice-K and the Sox pay the freight. Kelly, Dice-K for free, Lars, and Reddick for Gonzo. If they can't get Gonzo, sign Dunn. But he's going to ask for way more than he's worth, too.

Best thing they have going for them is Youk....he gives them the flexibility go after different guys.....
