When a stat is dependent on what other people do, and isn't a measure of individual performance it is fucking meaningless.

Hitting the ball over the fence is a skill. Hitting the ball over the fence while somebody is on base does nothing to evaluate the ability of an individual player.

And one of those five players once told an entire stadium he was the luckiest man on the face of the Earth, so you're partially right.

RBI Machines are hard to come by and should not be trivialized as lucky. They are put in a position to drive people in and they deliver. From recent Red Sox history you can take Manny or Papi as examples of players who have had tremendous success with runners in scoring position. Manny particularly has been consistently fantastic for his entire career at knocking people in. Contrast that with say.... Fat Boy Prince Fielder who has 32 HR and 80, count them, 80 RBI this year. Down 60 from his total of last year. Similar stats, 60 less RBI. The Brewers are 4th in runs in the NL and Ryan Braun has 7 less HR but 20 more RBI batting in front of Tubby, the king of the solo HR. Give me Braun any day of the week.
