Questionable/hopeful battle plan + terrible execution = horrendous casualties for the allies, particularly the crazy Brits.

In a week of bitter street fighting between 17th - 25th September 1944, British forces suffered over 11,000 casualties and a further 6,000 taken prisoner from a force of 35,000.

Nukes are a touchy subject, some still believe that it wasn't necessary to take out Hiroshima and Nagasaki. Marines who fought on Iwo Jima and Okinawa knew it was the right call. Speaking of which, the only pilot to fly both of those missions lived right here in Mass (Milton) until he died a few years ago.

Same pilot on both missions? That seems odd to me.
The people who believe Hiroshima and Nagasaki want to make hats out of wild flowers and form a chain of hand holding around the globe.
Also, in todays internet age where you can see something happen on the other side of the globe from the comfort of your desk/couch/shitter via a variety of ways, I don't think the American people would be able to handle that kind of loss of life in a week w/o a call for serious backlash. I can't think of anything more serious than droppin ol' Mr. Nukie.
Granted it would be an initial emotional reaction, but like w/ everything else, American's would forget and go back to our daily lives of over indulgence.
