If you want to help your "brother", don't just put all 5/5s or 10/10s. Be complimentary but honest.

Say he is a person who you would work with again anytime because you know how he will perform under pressure. Give an example of this.

He played baseball all through college on scholarship and has only had 2 jobs since then with the latter being laid off from. Just trying to help my brother out whoâ€™s been out of work for the past 8 months. Don't really feel like watching him go bankrupt. I didnâ€™t ask to be put down as a reference but I am so I'm going to help out any way that I can. thanks for the advice though.

I don't think any of us are saying not help him out, by all means do what you can...I just don't think he should have used you as a reference, imo.
