Suleiman El Dressi, a producer for the Al Jazeera TV network, reported in a broadcast from Benghazi that the conflagration started after “a group of people calling themselves ‘Islamic law supporters’ heard the news that there was an American movie involving the Prophet Mohammed.

The spark that provoked this sudden spasm of rage appears to be a virtually unknown anti-Islamic video allegedly promoted by notorious Muslim-baiting American preacher Terry Jones. According to the Wall Street Journal and the Associated Press, the film was produced by a 52-year-old Israeli-American Islamophobe in Southern California named Sam Bacile. The Atlantic published a useful explainer on the film in question, along with several clips. One trailer shows a bearded, frenzied Muslim mob attacking an upstanding Christian doctor and his family. The film also depicts the Prophet Muhammad as a dimwitted and lecherous “bastard” and includes a borderline pornographic depiction of Muhammad’s courtship with his first wife Khadija. It is, to put it bluntly, deeply nasty and hopelessly amateur—resembling the class project of a particularly bigoted set of Sunday school students.

The ambassador attack apparently had nothing to do with that movie. Instead it was planned as a response to the 9/11 anniversary.

Romney associates a press release from an embattled embassy, made before the attacks, with Obama and calls him out on it. When confronted with the facts that the quote he was using he says he wills tick with it and repeats it several times throughout the day....GOP sheep grab it and run. This man shouldn't be president of his Fantasy football league let alone the nation with greatest power on earth.

This is not a new campaign strategy and has been going on for years and like it or not you can bet your ass that Romney is going to use every opporunity to point this out. This is an election year and the presidency is at stake, thick skin is required.

While I see the outrage over Romney's "attack" on Obama here but I don't recall reading anything about Obama's offering to apologize to Japan for ending World War II and having the Japanes turn him down a few years back.

In September 2009, US Ambassador to Japan John Roos reported to the Obama administration that the Japanese government did not think it was a good idea for President Obama to visit Hiroshima to apologize for the US having dropped an atomic bomb on that city, a secret cable published by Wikileaks revealed.

Roos wrote the cable after his August meeting with Vice Foreign Minister Mitoji Yabunaka, reporting to Secretary of State Hillary Clinton that the Japanese government felt “the idea of President Obama visiting Hiroshima to apologize for the atomic bombing during World War II is a ‘non-starter.’ While a simple visit to Hiroshima without fanfare is sufficiently symbolic to convey the right message, it is premature to include such program in the November visit.”

Too much time has passed and most of the WWII Veterans are gone now so I guess it doesn't matter that Obama wanted to apologize to the nation that perpetrated a "Date which will live in Infamy" but its still a despicable thought to even entertain, never mind have it turned down.
