Especially when you don't have a field that you've concentrated in since college.

Basic estimating takes about 2 years to pick up completely. After that you dive into the schematic and design development phases, which takes much....once you pick up these basics on one type of work ( think public bids, school work), then you move on to something like healthcare....then possibly life sciences....then say, historical restoration....the list goes on...oh and learning to deal with owners, give presentations, etc......I would say it takes about 8-10 yrs to be a "complete" estimator.....

Oh, if you didn't want to be an estimator for a gc, then you could be an estimator for a specialty trade and focus on one type of work

Didn't become a problem until the yenta's started getting on Facebook. And were on there or a shopping website 24/7.

I understand the concept behind it but banning web sites would almost scream out that those in charge don't trust the employees... whether that is the case or not is irrelevant. If the hens are wasting time on sites instead of working there should be some way to measure, and act on, their lack of productivity.

I hope so. Submitted my resume for 4 gigs. Going to submit for another 4 today. I have no idea how long the process takes from the time you submit to when you get a phonecall. Haven't had to do this in 12+ years.

The fact that school is ending soon is working against me, though. Because some companies will make what is usually a paid position, an unpaid internship for the summer. And I've been working to long to not get paid, and get paid much better than what I'm barely scrapping by on now.

And getting into the financial services industry (even in compliance) isn't easy in this city...unless you want to make 40k, wear lobster pants or know someone.
