Yeah, drive down to Siesta Key just off Sarasota. Best beach in the country. Then hit Evie's on Ringling. Ask for Evie, tell him you my boy, he'll hook it up.
Seriously though, Clearwater? Ybor City in Tampa (cue the Ybor City hate) is like Faneuil, Boylston, and North Station all rolled into one. Except if you wander a block or two away from any of the above, you probably won't get shanked to death. There's obviously a couple of great titty bars nearby.
Also, Busch Gardens is right in Tampa if non-golfers, non-beach people, pro-roller coaster, pro-cotton candy people are looking for a way to kill a day. If anybody works for Bud (or other Bud-related companies), you can get free passes. I went solo a few years back and had carte blanche. I felt like Rusty Griswold. Was actually getting nauseous from too much riding. And they have some sick fucking coasters there. Not to mention, the zoo is outstanding. You get incredibly close to some crazy fucking creatures there.
I'm sure there's a place closer with Cubans. But http://floridianrestaurant.com/ has the best I've had in FLA and it's right in St. Pete (specifically Treasure Island---recent blog entry for those two people arrested for fucking outside of a bar there).
