I didn't see the ear right away. It looked like a patch of skin against its body.

The CEO of godaddy.com shoots elephants for sport under the guise of helping farmers with "problem elephants". Then he hands out Go Daddy hats to the villagers and they take the meat off the elephant (I don't believe the villagers typically shoot and kill elephants for food purposes).

The killing of Elephants and Hippo's doesn't happen in Africa often unless you're in the legit bush. Like you need translators and need to bring the village elder a gift. And even then it doesn't happen often.
In Uganda where my mom is from, poachers are shot and left for dead, via bleeding out or being eaten, if they get caught by rangers hunting in the national parks.

there is a guy who hangs out at our softball field during the summer, called The Can Man. He picks up all our empties and gets the money for them.
Once in a while another can collector will try to infringe upon his business and The Can Man will yell "poacher" and chase them away.
