Spring practice started for Texas today.

Practice starts soon at Bama. The QB spot is wide open. McCarron is far from a lock to take over for McElroy.

AY, I would really hate to see McCarron be too much of a headcase to win the job outright. His talent is remarkable. It would be a damn shame.

From people I have talked to who are close enough to the program they have been able to witness Sims in action, it wouldn't be a case of McCarron being a headcase or anything like that, it is just they all seem to think Phillip Sims is good enough to put up stiff competition. They love Sims' arm strength and his accuracy, not to mention he is more mobile. It may be game week this Fall before we know who the starter will be.

Also, some tend to think Blake Sims will get some snaps in a wildcat position, though that is purely speculation. He's described as a David Palmer type who could line up anywhere on the field, who may not have the elusiveness of Palmer but has more breakaway speed. One would have to think Corey Grant sees the field at some point as well. With Julio gone, they are going to need some new faces to step up and be play makers. Maze is damned good but I don't know if he has what it takes to be the man.

I'm sure our email buddy will get down to see a scrimmage or two this Spring and I can't wait to hear what he has to say about the offense.

Miller would be the best choice, the bad news is Bauserman is the safe choice.

A downside of BSS' main page turning into a freshman blog is that I don't check here as often as I used to. Good call finally turning 2010 v 2.0 into 2011.

2011 = Charlie Weis' offense will suck as much as it did from 2005 till 2009.

FYI for the ghost of Allie, Wake Forest opens at Syracuse on Labor Day weekend. Other foes on the OOC slate are home games vs. Toledo and URI and trips to Tulane and USC. Should be 4-1 through that slate.

Wasn't Charlies D usually the issue in South Bend, the O rarely had a problem putting up points.

My favorite moment was before the Fiesta Bowl when Weiss talked about his teams schematic advantage, then tOSU put up about 600 yards on them.

Not getting a First Down until the third quarter is a close second though.

I didn't hear it, but read he said a "top 12" program. That number 12 is interesting instead of saying top 10. 12th in BCS was Missouri and 11th was LSU. Heavy speculation around the web is he is talking about Oregon, which wouldn't surprise me as I have felt they are dirty for a while. It is all just speculation though.
