Steve Jobs has been granted a medical leave of absence by Apple's board of directors, Reuters reports.

According to the Wall Street Journal, COO Tim Cook will run day to day operations for the company.

Jobs wrote the following note to Apple employees:

Team,
At my request, the board of directors has granted me a medical leave of absence so I can focus on my health. I will continue as CEO and be involved in major strategic decisions for the company.
I have asked Tim Cook to be responsible for all of Apple's day to day operations. I have great confidence that Tim and the rest of the executive management team will do a terrific job executing the exciting plans we have in place for 2011.
I love Apple so much and hope to be back as soon as I can. In the meantime, my family and I would deeply appreciate respect for our privacy.

Apple's latest development may just be its most surprising yet - longtime CEO Steve Jobs was photographed outside the Stanford Cancer Center recently, the same treatment facility where the late Patrick Swayze sought chemotherapy for pancreatic cancer in his final days.

Jobs, who publicly came forward about his battle with and surgery for pancreatic cancer in 2004, is currently on his third leave of absence from work in seven years.

In the photos, an extremely "skeletal-looking" Jobs can be seen getting out of his car at the center, just one day after he was spotted at work on Apple's Cupertino, Calif. campus.

I have to admit, I did buy a new comp a month ago. I knew what I wanted going in, but I shot the shit with pretty knowledgable guy before I pulled the trigger. Turns out he was a "tech specialist" or some BS and he couldn't actually ring me up, and he handed me over to some kid that didn't know his ass from his elbow. I think he was handing him his first sale. Kid was legit shaking; idk if they're on commish or not, but he was soooo bad at trying to sell me on other shit I almost just walked out so I could order the comp online.
