A 4-year-old girl is being praised as a hero after escaping a car accident to get help for her trapped mother and injured little brother.

Averie Carrion was in the backseat of her grandfather's pickup truck when her mom, who was driving, lost control on a deserted road in northwest Iowa over the weekend, KTIV 4 News in Sioux City reported on Wednesday.

The Chevy Silverado "rolled about two to three times" before coming to a stop on its side, the girl's mother, Jamie, said.

She could see her one-year-old son, Abel, was bleeding.

"I can't see Averie and at that point I tried to call her name and she didn't answer me," Jamie said. "I thought she was unconscious and I thought she was pinned under the vehicle and I started to panic."

What she didn't know was that the young girl, who was not in a car seat, was already out of the car and going for help.

"I wanted to help them," she told KTIV 4 News.

She had tried to dig in the snow to help her mom, but then decided to go for help. She walked nearly a quarter of a mile through a foot of snow and braved the 21-degree weather before coming across a farmhouse.

I've been to Vieques and we took the ferry from Fajardo. Ferry ride from there is only like 30 min or so I think, costs like 2 bucks. I would definitely head there for a day trip if you're staying in Fajardo. The beaches are unreal, and we pretty much had them to ourselves when we went although they may be more crowded now that the W resort is open. But they literally filmed a Corona commercial on one of them. Would check out Culebra too.

Assuming you're flying into San Juan you could spend part of a day there when you arrive or leave. But if your transportation is provided that might be sort of difficult. You aren't missing that much if you don't spend time in San Juan though.

I'll try to remember the names of the beaches we liked most on Vieques. There are a few that were really cool that you have to drive a few miles down dirt roads to get to. There was one restaurant in Esperanza that was awesome, I'll try to find the name of that place too.

When I won the Vegas trip they picked us up in limos and drove us everywhere. They also had almost every minute planned to the second. I was there 2 days before my wife and I did something off their itinerary by ourselves, of course I used there AMEX to pay for the bar tab still.

I wonder how much freedom we will have to loaf around, because if I go there I want to do 3 things, scuba dive, golf, and lay on a beach all three drunk and stuffed with food.

As it gets closer I'll ask you all again. We leave 6/5 if I didn't mush my chances haha

Yeah Vieques is the island that the army used to use for target practice until the 90s when they killed some guy who was in the wrong place at the wrong time. Half of the island is still blocked off and has unexploded ordinance. That's why it's still so underdeveloped. The W is the first big resort there and it was just completed a year or two ago.

We didn't scuba dive there, but they have a bioluminescent bay that was pretty cool. Obviously they only do tours at night so that would be tough for you to do.
