I knew today I'd be moving ice and snow. What I didn't predict is that I'd be moving fist-sized chunks of pavement from my driveway that the plow dug up.

Anyone else pay someone to shovel their roof? I got up to go to Dunkins this morning and saw 3 dudes shoveling my neighbors roof so I had them do mine too for $300.

Saw somebody up on theirs on Faneuil St. at 8:30 this morning. Yes, I was up at 8:30. Happens once in a great while. It's amazing how peaceful the city really is at 8:30 on a weekend morning.

I actually got a roof rake on Friday afternoon at Lowe's but it didn't seem to do much. The first foot or so beyond the gutter was rock solid ice. I could clear the 2-3 feet after that but the "media" and a few roofers/carpenters that I know said that really wasn't enough.

2 out of all the people you know is a pretty tiny percentage.

I hear you about the whole 'ounce of prevention...' stuff. But it's a minuscule # of people being affected. The news makes it look so much worse.

My dads buddy told him about a way to get rid of the ice dams. Fill a sock or pantyhose w/ rock salt and throw them on the gutter. salt goes through and melts it.
