First three things I'd buy:

1. House in Maui

2. New car (with paid parking spot)

3. Snuggie

For the law talking types, could you set up an LLC or trust entity as the "winner" of the lotto? Or does an individual have to win?

If the former, it'd be a decent way to begin to shield yourself from the unwashed.

As for first purchases, I'm with RA. House on the 16th of the plantation course m

midd, you can set up a trust. In fact, on the Mass Lottery's website, every now then then they have a picture of a winner with the caption: "John Smith, in care of the Smith Trust, cashes in the winning ticket".
Since there can be only one payee per ticket, trusts are the way to ensure pooled winners (such as officemates) don't get screwed.

So you could appoint your "councilor" to serve as trustee, and just bury yourself on the schedule of beneficiaries?

I think its used more of a tool of anonymity. I'd be shocked if the trust isn't taxed as an individual when it receives the winnings. If there is a sole beneficiary, the tax is deemed paid. Just a shot in the dark, though.
