I bought my wife a $50 coupon for $25 at Nordstrom Rack off Groupon that expired Dec 31st. She forgot to use it and I got pissed so she went last night to try to use and and they accepted it. The lady at Nordstrom told her that gift cards do not expire in the state of Massachusetts. I had heard this before but thought it was sort of a wives tale, turns out its true. Wonder if that means that none of these coupons from Groupon, BuyWithMe, etc expire? Thoughts?

I remember most of the Groupons I've bought having expiration dates.

One I got for Nantucket also expired before I actually made it back there.

I don't think of these things as traditional gift cards so I assumed they were not subject to that.

also, mcm, read about a newish site yesterday called Dealgator.com that aggregates all (or most) of the local deals into one daily email.

In my first one today I got one that happened to be for a store in New Mexico on "Massachusetts Ave" but you can filter out the junk.

Regular gift cards, like if you walk in to Barnes and Noble and give them $20 for a $20 gift card, either don't expire or expire in 7 years in Mass. Not sure which. They also aren't allowed to charge you annual "maintenance fees". For things like Groupons where you pay $25 for a $50 gift card, the additional value can expire but the gift certificate will still be worth what you paid ($25).

Funny I was cleaning out a junk drawer last night and found two Dunkins gift cards from like two years ago. Apparently you have to register them online for them to be valid....wtf?

Anyway, Mk +35 Dunkins dollars. I hate Dunkins but I'll play hero and bring donuts to work. Unless someone wants to take them as my BSS FBB entry fee.
