Poaching

So a competitor that's successful in another large market is courting my company's clients, and have sent letters to the two bars I work in attacking our product. How do you suggest I respond to this? Serious and satirical replies are both acceptable.

On a serious note, not much you can do about competition in the American market but throw out a consistent, professional product people want over all others at an affordable rate. Also keep in mind that if that company is expanding it might mean they are hiring.

If the bars that you work for are sharing correpsondence from your direct competitors with you they either feel comfortable with you (and your wor)k or they are hoping you run back to your superiors to report the news in hopes of pitting the two companies against each other in a sinister plot to receive a discount. Either way, Its not poaching, its business.

It reads on their site that they pay jocks $50 plus a $25 bar tab. And they have to blog about the event every night. That's far beneath the compensation I receive just to host two hours of trivia. I won't be working for them.

We're cheap enough, believe me. If they have the same scale that the franchise in Phoenix has, they're robbing their jocks blind.

I am worried about them finding good people, though...I feel like it's a big enough city with enough creative people who don't know what a trivia jock should make in this market where they may sink their claws into them, at which point we'll just offer them 50% raises and take them away.
