I was roughly 13 years old when Bourque & Bird joined their respective teams. So, I grew up watching #77, from a pimply-faced teen to a work-my-ass-off CPA to my current work status as a consultant. Nobody was a bigger fan of Bourque than I was. His dedication, his work ethic, his entire attitude towards his team, his position, his city. And nobody was happier than I was when he was traded on March 6, 2000 (No, I didn't look that up - I know exactly where I was and when it was when it happened). He wasn't on the back nine, he was on the 18th tee. He wanted to win a Cup. It wasn't gonna happen here in Boston, as that 18th hole was full of pot bunkers from St. Andrews.

Comparing Bourque to Melo or LeDouche isn't just comparing Apples & Oranges (as they are both fruit). It's comparing Apples to Tire Irons.

Keep cheering for a guy who turned his back on you.

Neely >>> Bourque

An NHL buddy of mine who was in the know told me the NHL was going to allow a mid-game trade so Ray could get his cup if the Devils were 1 period away from clinching the cup.

You guys are right, he's nothing like Lebron and Carmello.

He's more like Chris Bosh.

Sakic = Lebron
Forsberg = D Wade
Bourque = Bosh

MCA, did you check w/ your doctor or your pharmacist before mixing-up your meds? Because you are CLEARLY fucked-up in the head this morning.

Didn't you read the warning labels? "If you are CLEARLY fucked-up in the head for more than 4 hours, seek immediate medical attention". The clock is ticking, amigo.

I just speak the truth JJ.

It may be hard to swallow, but the comparisons are spot on.

The only thing hard to swallow is that tire iron from Marvin Barnes that you're trying to foist upon us. I tried to spread peanut butter on it, like I do with my apples, but it just wasn't the same.

Good luck with that "speaking the truth" bit. I'm gonna go re-read Kevin Paul Dupont's 2001 Bourque biography, "Swallowing The Truth: 77 Reasons For Hating Ray Bourque"

Bourque is no different than Lebron.

is Memino going to throw a duckboat parade for Joe Thornton?

That's why Red Sox legends will always be Red Sox legends...because they didn't shoot their way out of town to win a title after not being able to win it on their own.

That's why guys like Pedro, Manny, Schilling will always have a good place in this city because THEY CAME HERE to win a title. Not the other way around.

I wasn't in Boston at the time so I don't know the particulars on the Red Sox side, but what was the situation with Wade Boggs leaving? He ended up getting a ring with the Yankees. Is that better/worse than the Bourque scenario?
