I know what you mean but even with a 3 point lead the other team is better off keeping the time on the clock and fouling him which if he's lucky he'll go 1-2 at the line.

And yes I know that really doesn't make sense and Pierce has been dribbling the ball off his feet for a decade, but it's Doc Rivers we're talking about here.
