Why not throw Kalish out there full time.
Derrek Lee, another pass. Injury prone washed up 1B don't do anything for me.
Prince Fielder. Pass. Solo HR hitting whales do nothing for me either. Theo will get creative, fall in love with someone with a great OPS and trade 3/4 of the farm system for him while Cashman swoops in for Cliff Lee.

There will be no big changes this offseason. Barring a trade offer initiated by another club looking to dump a decent player for some salary relief (taking Dice-K in return), next years team will be the same as this years team.

This offense that everyone is dying to improve with a big FA bat or Adrian Gonzalez scored the 2nd most runs in baseball last year missing two MVP caliber players for huge chunks of the season.

Anyone who thinks Lackey and Beckett will be as bad next year as they were this year has no clue how baseball works. Any team in baseball would kill to have those two as their number #3 and #4 starters, and a regression to career averages adds a significant number of wins to the Sox total.

Relief pitching is the goal of this off-season, Whichever FA reliever can be signed without spending a ridiculous amount of money is the only plan.

Resign Beltre&Ortiz, make V-Mart a competitive offer, sign a RP. The end.

1.Ellsbury
2.Pedroia
3.Youkilis
4.Beltre
5. Ortiz
6.Drew
7.Kalish/Cameron
8.Scutaro/Lowrie
9.Tek/Salty/V-mart

Lester/Clay/Beckett/Lackey/Dice-K

That team wins 95+ and any team that starts Lester/Clay 1-2 in the playoffs can win a title.

Obviously guys get better when they're 32 years old and Lackey's always pitched well in Fenway.

O RLY?

To answer the last two questions in that article after one season with the Sox, None and No. "Regression to career averages" = already happened

And obviously Beltre is a lock for a repeat performance in '11.

Lackey's numbers @ Fenway are infinitely more a factor of facing one of the best offenses in baseball over the last 7 years than the fact it was Fenway.

Don't remember ever saying Beltre was going to have an identical OPS the next 4 years, but okay. He doesn't need to have an MVP season every year to be a ridiculously valuable player. Guarantee he's closer to his '10 numbers than his '09 if he resigns.

Safeco crushes RHH, and hitting in a real lineup certainly helps.
