I don't own any of the above.

But if that fruitrock song was the #1 single on iTunes this year, that doesn't say much for today's tunes.

whatever this means

Mac App Store Will Launch January 6th [Apple]
After a few rounds of rumors and speculations about when exactly Apple would get its Mac App Store off the ground, the official word is in: January 6th. If you were getting me Mac Apps for Christmas, time to reevaluate!

There's no word on exactly how many apps will be available at launch, but 90 countries will have access from day one. The apps will be organized into categories that are similar to the iOS App Store: Education, Lifestyle, Games, etc. Presumably things like Graphics & Design will be given more weight, though, in an Mac OS environment.

As of the 6th, Snow Leopard users will be able to download the App Store for free as a software update. It'll feature the same one-click purchasing process to which you've become accustomed on your iPhone and iPad, and Apple keeps the same 30% of sales revenue that they do on the mobile side as well.

Of course, you'll still be able to download applications outside of Apple's walled garden. But for those of you for whom Big Brother fears are looming, take heart that Cydia for Mac is just around the corner, too.

so I wrote in the Gadgets thread that the Mac App store is open.

I don't have my Macbook yet, and this may be a dumb question, but I don't understand apps for a computer.

What do they do? And what is the point? How is it different than using a website? I obviously get them for phones, not for computers.

Well, Boston, the simplest way I can put it is that we are on the cusp of a revolution. More and more you are going to (or perhaps already have) notice that buying software in that comes loaded onto easily scratchable dvds in big cumbersome cardboard boxes is becoming a thing of the ancient, ancient past. The future, as with RA's "Roku" (whatever the fuck that is), lies in directly downloading, aka "streaming" software via the internet. So while the MacApp store will probably stock a comp friendly version of "angry birds" and such for your Mac, it is also going to carry full software titles, like "Keynote" which is better than Powerpoint, "Pages" which is better than Word, and "Numbers" which will make everyone who has ever used Excel feel like an asshole.

If you poke around, you'll notice that there are already a lot of 3rd party vendors that you can buy software from via download, but Apple is opening this groundbreaking site in order to beat the likes of Amazon et al to the punch and have a nice, simple one-stop shop for Mac users. From small apps to full titles, all you need is a 56k internet connection and you're good to go.

Cue Boston wildly praising Apple and openly mocking those who still use Chrome.

I have an IMAc and I just bought an iPad. I have yet to get an app. The computer alone is unreal.

How do I get videos from iPhone into my laptop? The file is too big to send and I can't find it on the iTunes page.
